August 26 (SeeNews) - Swedish truck maker Scania plans to expand its operations in the Turkish market by strengthening relationships with domestic hauliers and entering new segments, the company said.
Scania aims to become the leading importer in the Turkish market, the company's country manager Oscar Jaern said in a statement published on its website.
The total market for trucks in the heavy haulage segment is some 30,000 per year. The combined transport and logistics sector in Turkey is expected to reach $120 billion (89.7 million euro) in value in 2015, the statement added.
Since establishing a presence in the country in 1945, Scania has sold 20,000 trucks in Turkey.
At present, Turkish motor vehicle importer Dogus Otomotiv is Scania's distributor in Turkey. Dogus Otomotiv operates 21 service points across Turkey, the statement added.
Scania also plans to focus on the parts market where it has a "comparatively low market share today", it said.
