April 27 (SeeNews) - The Slovenian car parts plant of Japanese electrical equipment manufacturer Sumida is cutting the number of its employees due to falling demand caused by the coronavirus crisis, local media reported.
Sumida Slovenija is laying off 19 of its roughly 400 employees, estimating as uncertain its situation in the coming months, news agency STA reported on Friday.
The car parts plant is located in Blejske Dobrave, northwestern Slovenia, on an area of 17,000 square metres. It emerged on of the manufacturing sites of former electromechanics, telecommunications, electronics and automation giant Iskra, which went bankrupt in 1997. Following the bankruptcy, Germany's Vogt Electronics bought Iskra's Blejske Dobrave plant (former Iskra Telematika), and after Vogt was acquired by Sumida in 2006, the company was renamed to Sumida Slovenija in 2009.
