May 29 (SeeNews) - Albania's finance minister Anila Denaj has said that 38,000 people are estimated to have lost their jobs in March and April due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak in the country, local media reported.
Some 65,000 people have received 26,000 leks ($230.8/207.8 euro) each in emergency payment within the government's first support package and around 110,000 have benefited from the bonus of 40,000 leks within the expanded package, Albanian Daily News quoted Denaj as saying on Thursday.
Albania's government earlier adopted a package of financial relief measures worth more than $440 million (396.2 million euro) to support the coronavirus-affected sectors of the economy.
The country confirmed its first two coronavirus cases in early March. The number of confirmed infections reached 1,076 as of Thursday.
Prime minister Edi Rama said last week that Albania will reopen its land borders on June 1. Hotel beaches will also be opened starting the same day and all other beaches will open on June 10 as the country launches its summer tourism season.
