October 21 (SeeNews) - Municipally-owned Sofia subway system operator Metropoliten has signed a 75.1 million levs ($44.7 million/38.4 million euro) contract with local construction company Trace Group Hold for an expansion of the underground railway system in the Bulgarian capital, Trace said on Thursday.
The project benefits from financing under EU's operational programme Transport and transport infrastructure, Trace Group Hold said in a bourse filing.
Under the terms of the contract, Trace Group Hold will be responsible for the design and construction of a 1.1 km-long section of Sofia metro, including a subway station and interstation ventilation system.
Works under the contract are expected to the completed within a period of 39 months.
The deal was signed on October 21.
The Sofia metro currently comprises four lines with 52 km of tracks and 47 stations.
