July 3 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's capital Sofia has received the first train of a batch of 20 which will service the third section of the city's subway, which is currently under construction, Sofia's mayor Yordanka Fandakova said.
The first section of the third line - with a length of eight kilometres - will be launched next year, Yordanka Fandakova said in a Facebook post.
A further four kilometres will become operational in 2020, according to Fandakova.
Earlier in June, the European Investment Bank (EIB) said that Sofia is seeking a 22 million euro ($25.9 million) loan to finance the construction of the second stage of the city's subway line 3, which envisages the construction of a 3.8 km twin-track subway section and four stations.
Sofia's subway line 3 is expected to be a total of 16 km long, with 19 stations. When completed, it will bring the total Sofia subway network to 56 km of lines and 53 stations.
