February 16 (SeeNews) - Passenger traffic at Sofia Airport rose by an annual 43% to 468,968 in January, an all-time high for the month of January, the airport operator said on Thursday.
Take-offs and landings at Sofia Airport rose 25% year-on-year in January, reaching 4,529, the airport operator said in a statement.
Passenger traffic at the airport’s Terminal 1 increased by an annual 69% to 216,000.
At Terminal 2, passenger traffic rose 28% due to the recent transfer of flights between the two terminals. Since January 16, Irish low-cost air carrier Ryanair started operating from the newer and bigger Terminal 2.
Ryanair expanded its operations in Bulgaria last year, adding flights from Sofia to 19 new destinations.
The Sofia Airport processed 1,539 tonnes of cargo and postal shipments in January, an increase of 17% compared to the same month of last year.
