September 16 (SeeNews) - Passenger numbers at Bulgaria's Sofia airport increased to 496,400 in August from 289,437 in the same month of last year, the airport operator said.
Aircraft take-offs and landings rose to 5,108 in the eighth month of 2021 from 3,483 in August 2020, the airport operator said in a data release.
Cargo handled at the airport fell to 1,515 tonnes in the review month from 1,756 tonnes in August 2020.
Traffic at Sofia airport slumped last year due to restrictions on international air travel introduced to limit the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
SOF Connect, the international consortium which is running Sofia Airport under a 35-year concession contract, said earlier this month that it is proposing no increase of its charges in 2022, aiming to support the airline industry that continues to struggle due to the pandemic. The airport in the Bulgarian capital will remain with the lowest charges in Eastern Europe and one of the lowest in Europe, the concessionaire said.
