March 15 (SeeNews) - Sofia Municipality and Stolichen Elektrotransport, a public transport company serving the Bulgarian capital, announced on Wednesday the launch into operation of new low-floor articulated trams.
The new trams are the first batch of a total of 29 that have been ordered, Sofia Municipality said in a statement.
The order has been completely funded by EU financing of 97.7 million levs ($52.7 million/49.95 million levs), including VAT. The financing was provided under a project for improving the air quality in Sofia through the purchase of new trams. The project is being implemented under Operational Programme Environment 2014-2020.
