BELGRADE (Serbia), August 3 (SeeNews) – Serbia and Montenegro Air Traffic Services (SMATSA) has launched the second phase of its Fallback Air Traffic Management (ATM) system, it said.
The Fallback ATM system is used in case of inability to provide services from the main ATM system, which enables the continuity of air traffic services with minimal capacity reduction and without the need to close the airspace, SMATSA said in a statement earlier this week.
The system is designed by a different manufacturer so that the circumstances that could cause a shutdown of the main ATM platform do not affect it, SMATSA said.
The Fallback ATM system is implemented in the area managed by the Flight Control Centre Belgrade, as well as in the airports of Belgrade and Podgorica.
In April, the European Investment Bank (EIB) said it signed a contract to extend a 45 million euro ($52.1 million) loan to SMATSA to finance an upgrade of the air traffic control system in Serbia and Montenegro.
