January 25 (SeeNews) - The total number of tourists recorded in Slovenia in 2021 stood at 4,003,464, up 30.6%, the state statistical office said on Tuesday, citing provisional data.
A total of 1,832,466 foreign tourists visited Slovenia in 2021, up 50.7%, and their overnight stays grew 42.9% to 4,794,935, the statistical office said in a statement.
Visits by domestic tourists went up by 17.4% to 2,170,998 in 2021. Overnight stays by domestic tourists totalled 6,456,443 last year, up 10.4%, taking the overall number of tourist overnights in the review period to 11,251,378, up 22.2% compared to 2020.
In December alone, the total number of tourists recorded in Slovenia stood at 294,914, versus only 9,397 tourist visits in the like period of the previous year due to the coronavirus-related restrictions.
The number of foreign tourists who visited Slovenia in December totalled 82,249 and visits by domestic tourists totalled 212,665.
Most foreign overnight stays in November 2021 were generated by tourists from Croatia (13% of total), Italy (11%), Austria (8%), Serbia (8%), and Germany (6%).
