March 15 (SeeNews) - Slovenian aluminium producer Talum plans to dismiss 120 employees as it intends to halt primary metal production due to high energy costs in April, local media reported.
The company will offer new jobs to 69 employees active in primary aluminium production, news agency STA quoted sources from the company as saying on Tuesday.
Talum, with a total workforce of 1,453, plans to shut down electrolytic furnaces in a controlled manner so that at least half of them could be restarted in the future, STA added.
The company will focus on products with high value-added such as castings, slugs, and heat exchangers, as the economic conditions are making primary aluminium output uncompetitive.
Slovenian state-run power grid operator Eles is majority owner of Talum.
