January 31 (SeeNews) - Slovenian car battery manufacturer Tovarna Akumulatorskih Baterij (TAB) plans to launch production of lithium-ion batteries at its factory in Prevalje in February, local media reported.
The factory will have a workforce of 40 employees and will be located at premises that TAB had purchased from pharmaceutical company Lek, public broadcaster RTV reported last week.
"Our batteries are of interest to a very wide range of customers, from small investors in Slovenia to large energy companies. It is mainly about the fact that electricity can be actively managed with batteries," CEO Roman Burja said.
In June 2021, TAB said that it established a joint venture with Chinese company Haidi Energy Technology for the construction of a 50 million euro ($54.2 million) lithium-ion battery factory on a land plot acquired from Lek in Prevalje, which was expected to launch in the first half of 2022. However, in December 2021, TAB said it put the project on hold due to the global supply chain crisis.
