January 21 (SeeNews) - Slovenian car maker Revoz, a unit of France's Renault, plans to cut 450 jobs amid a reduction in output caused by the global semiconductor supply crisis, Slovenian media reported.
Revoz intends to reduce its daily output to 325 from 486 vehicles in April and is already in talks with social partners on the downsizing of its staff, public broadcaster RTV quoted company sources as saying on Thursday.
"Unfortunately, the semiconductor crisis still does not seem to be over. In addition, after concluding a partnership with German Daimler at the beginning of the year, Revoz is also facing a halt in the production of Smart Forfour and uncertain market conditions in terms of sales," sources from Revoz said.
Revoz intends to reduce production from one and a half shifts to one shift as of April, RTV reported.
In November, the Slovenian company cut output to one and a half from two shifts due to the problems with the delivery of semiconductors.
Last year, Revoz, which currently has a workforce of about 2,400 employees, reduced its production by 31% to 95,797 vehicles. The company's Novo Mesto factory is the only Renault facility producing the third-generation Twingo model. The factory also produces the electric version of Renault Clio and Daimler's second-generation Smart Forfour.
