February 6 (SeeNews) - Slovenian energy group Petrol [LJE:PETG] has launched a 7.4 million euro ($8.0 million) oil and gas end-to-end supply chain digitisation project in partnership with local companies SmartCargo and Spica, Petrol said.
The companies will create a platform and a mobile application to automate logistics processes, including the automatic generation of timetables for the distribution of energy products, improving efficiency, increasing transparency, and enabling paperless operations, Petrol said in a statement on Friday.
The technological solutions that will be created during the project will represent the basis for the further updating of Petrol's business processes, the Slovenian company said.
The project will contribute to reducing carbon dioxode (CO2) emissions, as 121,000 fewer kilometres will be traveled annually. A total of 129,000 kg of CO2 will be saved annually, which represents approximately 10% less emissions from the supply logistics of petrol and its partners, Petrol noted.
The project will also significantly contribute to the economic sustainability of Petrol, as it replaces the existing ERP system, which can no longer be updated and upgraded to the extent that would meet Petrol's needs in the transition to digital and green business.
The project is part of Slovenia's Recovery and Resilience Plan funded by the EU Recovery and Resilience Mechanism to mitigate the economic and social consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.
