January 5 (SeeNews) - Slovenian port operator Luka Koper [LJE:LKPG] has broken its vehicle transshipment record in 2022, backed by the diversion of traffic from northern Europe to the Port of Koper, it said.
The port exceeded the previous record of 754,410 vehicles handled in 2018 in the first days of December and transshipped its 800,000th vehicle for 2022 on December 30, Luka Koper said in a statement last week.
Koper port booked a 22% growth in vehicle throughput year-on-year in the first ten months of 2022, surpassing Mediterranean competitors like Barcelona and Valencia where vehicle throughput rose by 7% and 18%, respectively, the port operator noted.
"Despite the challenging conditions on the automotive market, intermittent interruptions in supply chains, and congested shipping and warehousing capacities, we have reached a new milestone at the Port of Koper," Luka Koper CEO Bostjan Napast said.
Luka Koper's net profit for the first nine months of 2022 went up to 58 million euro ($62 million) from 22.9 million euro in the like period of last year.
