LJUBLJANA (Slovenia), February 16 (SeeNews) – Slovenia's sole nuclear power plant Krsko shut down on Thursday morning due to a faulty water valve, the plant's operator said.
The nuclear power plant shut down automatically due to deviations in the work of the main control valve regulating water supply to the classical, or non-nuclear, part of the plant, Krsko said in a statement on its website.
It added that the shutdown had no impact on the environment and the fault should be diagnosed and remedied on Thursday.
According to information currently available, the plant is expected to be reconnected to the grid on Friday, Krsko said.
Just a few months ago, Krsko was shut down for regular maintenance works which it carries out every 18 months.
In its last 18-month cycle, the plant delivered 8.23 million MWh of electricity to the grid.
Krsko was built in Slovenia near the border with Croatia in the 1970s, when the two countries were still part of the former Yugoslavia. The two neighbours share the power plant's output.
