LJUBLJANA (Slovenia), August 9 (SeeNews) – Slovenian waste processing company Kemis has suspended the shipping of waste to its Vrhnika site, complying with an government order, the company said.
Slovenia's environment and spatial planning inspectorate has notified the company that the reconstruction of parts of the Vrhnika site executed after a fire that partially destroyed the facility in 2017, was unlawful, Kemis said in a statement on Thursday.
The inspectorate ordered Kemis to demolish the reconstructed parts by June 30, 2020, and immediately cease waste processing activities on the land where they are located.
Kemis will review the decision and decide whether to lodge an appeal within 15 days, it added.
In May 2017, a fire destroyed part of the business premises of Kemis and the warehouse for storage of low-hazard solid and liquid waste in Vrhnika. The fire engulfed hazardous waste stored at the location and intended for further processing, mainly fuels, waste oil, solvents and medicinal products.
