July 10 (SeeNews) - Slovenia's trade surplus decreased to 244.2 million euro ($278.4 million) in the first five months of 2017, from 458.1 million euro a year earlier, as imports grew faster than exports, the statistical office said on Monday.
Exports in the January-May period rose to 11.4 billion euro, 11% higher than a year earlier, while imports increased 14% to 11.2 billion euro.
The European Union was Slovenia’s main trading partner in the first five months of 2017, absorbing 8.8 billion euro of the country's exports and providing 9.0 billion euro of its imports.
In May alone, Slovenia's trade surplus amounted to 6.5 million euro, as exports rose 14% on the year to 2.40 billion euro and imports expanded 17% to 2.39 billion euro.
