October 10 (SeeNews) - Slovenia posted a trade surplus of 715.1 million euro ($797.6 million) for the first eight months of 2016, up from 443 million euro surplus a year earlier, the country's statistics office said on Monday.
Exports increased 4% year-on-year, reaching 16.3 billion euro, while imports rose 1.9% to 15.6 billion euro, the statistics office said in a statement.
In August alone, Slovenia recorded a trade deficit of 9.1 million euro, with exports rising 9.4% on the year to 1.72 billion euro, while imports added 5.1% to 1.73 billion euro.
The European Union was Slovenia’s main trading partner in August, absorbing 75.2% of the country's exports and providing 79.7% of its imports.
Slovenia closed last year with a trade surplus of 635.1 million euro, up from 355.5 million euro in 2014, as exports climbed 4.4% to 23.9 billion euro, while imports rose 3.2% to 23.3 billion euro.
