October 25 (SeeNews) - The number of foreign tourist arrivals in Slovenia rose by 9.7% year-on-year to 2,076,617 in the January-August period, provisional data from the state statistics office showed on Tuesday.
Overnight stays by foreign tourists grew 8.3% in the eight months through August 2016, reaching 5,144,406, the office said in a statement.
Foreign tourist arrivals accounted for 70% of the total number of tourists, whereas overnights spent by foreign nationals made up 66% of all overnights in the period.
Domestic tourists totalled 869,641 in the first eight months of 2016, up 3.7% on the year, taking the total number of tourists to 2,946,258, up 7.9% on the year.
Domestic tourists spent 2,698,024 nights in Slovenia in the first eight seven months of 2016, up 1.4% on the year, taking the overall number of tourist overnights to 7,842,430, up 5.8%.
In August alone, the number of foreign tourists visiting Slovenia rose 9.3% on the year to 516,703, whereas foreign overnights climbed 9.2% to 1,373,680.
