April 14 (SeeNews) - The International Monetary Fund (IMF) said on Tuesday the Slovenian economy will contract by 8% this year, hit by the coronavirus crisis, and will partly recover next year, recording 5% growth.
In October the IMF projected that Slovenia's economy will expand by 2.9% in 2020.
Slovenia's jobless rate will rise to 9.0% this year, up from last year's 4.6%, and retreat to 6.0% in 2021, the Fund said in its latest World Economic Outlook report.
The average inflation in the tiny Adriatic state is expected to slow down to 0.4% in 2020 from last year's 1.6%, and to quicken again to 1.4% in 2021.
At the same time, Slovenia's current account surplus is seen shrinking to 0.8% of GDP this year from 6.6% of GDP in 2021, before it increases again to 3.2% of GDP in 2021.
The euro area's economy is seen contracting by 7.5% this year and expanding by 4.7% in 2021.
