LJUBLJANA (Slovenia), May 29 (SeeNews) – Slovenia's consumer prices fell by 1.2% year-on-year in May, after dropping at the same pace in April, the country's statistical office said on Friday.
On a monthly comparison basis, consumer prices rose by 0.9% in May, following a 0.9% drop in April, the statistical office said in a statement.
In annual terms, the largest downward impact on the consumer price index (CPI) - of 1.4 pps, came from lower prices of petroleum products, with liquid fuel prices falling 32.4% and the cost of fuel and lubricants declining 23.9%, the statement read, adding that petrol prices were down 25.5% and diesel prices dropped 22.5% in May.
In addition, clothing and footwear prices pulled the CPI down by 0.3 pps after decreasing by a monthly 4.2%.
At the same time, food prices rose by an annual 5.4% in May, pushing the CPI higher by 0.8 pps, with the cost of fresh fruit jumping 24% and meat prices rose 10.6%.
In monthly terms, fresh fruit prices jumped 32.8% in May, contributing 0.4 pps to the inflation, while clothing and footwear prices rose 1.1%, contributing 0.1% to the monthly index.
Measured by the EU's harmonised index of consumer prices, Slovenia swung to annual deflation of 1.4% in May, from inflation of 1.6% in May 2019.
