September 9 (SeeNews) - Slovenia posted a trade surplus of 744.3 million euro ($838.9 million) for the first seven months of 2016, up from 442.7 million euro a year earlier, the country's statistics office said on Friday.
The country's exports increased 3.5% year-on-year to 14.6 billion euro, while imports edged up 1.4% to 13.8 billion euro, the statistics office said in a statement.
In July alone, Slovenia recorded a trade surplus of 99.8 million euro, with exports falling 3.1% on the year to 2.1 billion euro, while imports contracted 2.4% to 1.97 billion euro.
The European Union was Slovenia’s main trading partner in July, absorbing 75.3% of the country's exports and providing 79.3% of its imports.
Slovenia closed last year with a trade surplus of 635.1 million euro, up from 355.5 million euro in 2014, as exports climbed 4.4% to 23.9 billion euro, while imports rose 3.2% to 23.3 billion euro.
