July 8 (SeeNews) - Slovenia posted a trade surplus of 512.2 million euro ($567.1 million) in the January-May period, up from 176.7 million euro for the same period last year, preliminary statistics office data showed on Friday.
The country's exports increased 4.9% to 10.3 billion euro through May, while imports edged up 1.5% to 9.8 billion euro, the office said in a statement.
In May alone, Slovenia saw an external trade surplus of 73.02 million euro on the back of a 8.3% growth in exports to EU Member States and a 3% rise in exports to EU non-member countries. Imports to these regions increased by 9.6% and fell 2.9%, respectively.
Total exports jumped 7.1% on the year to 2.1 billion euro in May, while imports jumped 7.3% to 2 billion euro.
Slovenia had a trade surplus of 758.6 million euro last year, up from 355.5 million euro in 2014, as exports climbed 4.5% to 24 billion euro, while imports rose 2.8% to 23.2 billion euro, according to the latest available statistics office data, which is still provisional.
