January 6 (SeeNews) - Slovenian state-owned energy producer GEN's consolidated net profit rose to 80 million euro ($90.5 million) in 2021, the company said on Thursday.
The group generated 3.0 billion euro in turnover last year, and made investments worth 100 million euro, GEN said in a statement.
In 2020, GEN recorded a net profit of 65 million euro, while its turnover totalled 2.3 billion euro.
The net profit of the parent company, GEN Energija, fell to 26 million euro in 2021 from 45 million euro in the previous year, while its turnover remained flat at 230 million euro.
In July, GEN received an energy permit from Slovenia's infrastructure ministry for the construction of a second reactor unit at Krsko nuclear power plant, JEK 2, clearing the way for the implementation of administrative procedures and preparation of documentation for investment decision-making on the project. A final investment decision on the construction of the unit will be made by 2027, the COO of Gen-Energija, Danijel Levicar, said in December.
Krsko NPP, located in Slovenia near the border with Croatia, generates some 40% of Slovenia's electricity output. The NPP is located around 100 kilometers from Austria and operates a Westinghouse pressurised light water reactor of 2,000 MW thermal power capacity. The operating company Nuklearna elektrarna Krsko (NEK) is co-owned by Gen-Energija and Croatia's Hrvatska elektroprivreda (HEP).
