LJUBLJANA (Slovenia), May 25 (SeeNews) – The coronavirus pandemic brought the Slovenian tourism to a halt in April, with the sector registering no new tourist arrivals, the country's statistical office said on Monday.
"Due to the government action to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease, no tourist arrivals and just about 11,000 tourist overnight stays (99% fewer than in April 2019) were recorded in tourist accommodation establishments in April 2020," the office of statistics said in a statement.
The tourist accommodation facilities that registered overnight stays in April mostly welcomed guests under international student exchange prgrammes who are staying in Slovenia for a longer period of time, the office of statistics noted.
In January-April, tourist arrivals in Slovenia decreased by an annual 52% to some 660,000, while overnight stays dropped 47% to just over 1.8 million. Foreign tourists accounted for 402,000 of all arrivals, down 56% on the year, and some 1.1 million of all overnight stays, down 51%.
In 2019, tourist arrivals to Slovenia increased 6.3% to 4.7 million, while overnight stays added 1.8% to 11.4 million.
