September 23 (SeeNews) - Slovenia scored highest among countries in Southeast Europe (SEE) in the 13th edition of the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2020 ranking published by the Cornell University, INSEAD, and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
Slovenia ranked 32nd, maintaining its position from the previous edition of the GII report, followed by Bulgaria at 37th place, Croatia at 41st, Greece at 43rd, Romania at 46th and Montenegro at 49th, the GII report showed.
Outside the top 50, Serbia ranked at 53rd position, while North Macedonia and Moldova took 57th and 59th position, respectively. Bosnia and Herzegovina ranked 74th, followed by Albania, which was the lowest ranked country in SEE, at 83rd spot out of a total of 131 countries reviewed.
Almost all SEE countries improved their positions in the ranking compared to the previous edition, except for Montenegro and Moldova which descended four places and one place, respectively.
The top gainers in the SEE region were Romania and Serbia, climbing four positions each.
Switzerland topped the ranking, while the Philippines scored lowest among the top 50 states in the report.
