June 5 (SeeNews) - Slovenia's government is considering the launch of a flag carrier airline in the summer of 2025, local media reported.
The government needs to find a private partner for the project but it has not yet given a mandate to the ministry to start a search, state news agency STA quoted infrastructure minister Alenka Bratusek as saying on Friday.
"If we have a partner with a licence, with slots, with experience, we would not start from scratch, which is important not only because of the European Commission, but also because of all other technical problems," Bratusek added.
Former Slovenian flag carrier Adria Airways entered into bankruptcy proceedings in October 2019 after suspending all flights a month earlier over lack of funds needed to run its daily operations. Adria Airways was controlled by German-owned fund 4K Invest via its wholly-owned subsidiary AA International Aviation Holding GmbH. It bought the airline in 2016 from Slovenian sovereign holding company SDH, which is coordinating the privatisation process in the country.
