June 16 (SeeNews) - Slovenia is Southeast Europe's top performer in the Global Innovation Index (GII) ranking published by the Cornell University, INSEAD, and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
Slovenia ranked 32nd, followed by Bulgaria at 36th place, Croatia at 41st, Romania at 42nd and Montenegro at 48th, the GII report shows.
Outside the top 50, Moldova placed at 54th, Macedonia at 61st, Serbia at 62nd, and Bosnia and Herzegovina at 86th. Albania was the lowest ranked country in the region at the 93th spot out of a total of 127 countries reviewed.
Almost all SEE countries improved their previous positions in the ranking, except Moldova, Macedonia and Albania which lost eight, three and a single place, respectively.
The top gainers in the region were Croatia and Romania, climbing six places each. Serbia was up three positions and Bulgaria gained two. Bosnia and Herzegovina, in turn, went up one place.
GII provides a key tool and a rich database of detailed metrics for economies, which in 2016 encompassed 128 economies, representing 92.8% of the world’s population and 97.9% of global GDP. In 2015, the report included 141 countries.
