LJUBLJANA (Slovenia), February 1 (SeeNews) – Slovenia closed last year with a budget surplus of 536.9 million euro ($616.2 million), compared to a deficit of 326.2 million euro in 2017, the finance ministry said.
Total budget revenues increased 13.3% year-on-year to 10 billion euro in 2018, mainly due to higher tax revenues and EU funding, while expenditures rose 3.4% to 9.46 billion euro, the finance ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
Tax revenues increased 6.9% to 8.25 billion euro in 2018. VAT revenues, which mostly depend on the growth of private and government consumption, rose by 7.2% to about 3.76 billion euro.
Non-tax revenues also increased - by 29.2% to 866.9 million euro, mainly due to the one-off effect of dividends received by Nova Ljubljanska Banka (NLB) [LJE:NLBR] in the amount of 270.6 million euro.
