October 1 (SeeNews) - Slovakia's Cinemax said on Monday it will open in Romania two cinema halls worth 4 million euro ($4.65 million) as part of a plan to have 30 screens in the Southeast European country in the next years.
The two cinemas will be opened in Veranda Mall Bucharest and in AFI Brasov shopping centre, Cinemax said in a press release.
"These locations are a first step towards the development of our brand in Romania, where we will expand our network and seek to grow our market share as much as possible," Cinemax general manager Michal Drobny said.
"Today we have 65 cinemas in Slovakia and we intend to double this number by 2020. Just to get an idea of our intentions, only in Romania we plan to reach 30 screens in the coming years, we already signed some contracts with local shopping centres," he added.
The two halls will have a total area of 5,300 sq m, a capacity of over 2,000 seats and 24 screens. They will be equipped with the latest Dolby Atmos sound systems, a 4k laser projector and will provide 10% more space between seats compared to the standard space offered by other cinemas. Both venues will each have a VIP room and a VIP lounge.
Cinemax is owned by Continental Film, one of the largest film distributors in Slovakia.
Created in 2006, Cinemax offers film distribution services and currently has a network of 13 multiplex cinemas in 12 Slovak towns, totaling 65 screens and over 11,000 seats.
