September 3 (SeeNews) - Siemens Mobility, part of German conglomerate Siemens, said that it has received its first orders from companies in Bulgaria and Romania for its Smartron locomotives.
Romania's E-P Rail has ordered four Smartron locomotives, while Bulgaria's PIMK has ordered three, Siemens Mobility said in a statement last week.
Authorization for placing on the market for the first Smartron in Bulgaria has already been received, the company noted.
"The Smartron for Bulgaria and Romania operates on the 25 kV AC power system and is equipped with the PZB train control system," Siemens Mobility said.
The Smartron has a 1.435-meter gauge and weighs around 83 tons.
Since introducing the locomotive in Germany in March last year, Siemens Mobility has sold over 25 Smartron locomotives in the country.
