SOFIA (Bulgaria), July 5 (SeeNews) – Economically inactive people made up 34.4% of the population in the 15 to 64 age group in Croatia and Romania, which is the second highest share in the EU, the bloc's statistical office said on Wednesday.
In Bulgaria this share was 31.3%, the sixth highest in the EU, Eurostat said in a statement.
In the other EU member state from Southeast Europe (SEE) – Slovenia - economically inactive people accounted for 28.4% in 2016.
Their share in the only EU candidate country from SEE included in the survey – Macedonia - was 35.5%.
Last year, a total of 89 million people aged 15 to 64 were economically inactive in the EU, equivalent to 27.1% of the total EU population.
Italy recorded the highest share of economically inactive people - 35.1%, while Sweden posted the lowest – 17.9%.
