December 18 (SeeNews) - Serbian sugar producer Sunoko, part of diversified conglomerate MK Group, plans to invest 1 million euro ($1.1 million) in the establishment of a research centre for sugar beet production, Sunoko general manager Slobodan Kosutic said.
Sunoko has decided to intensify its efforts to provide continuous education of producers and next year will set up a research centre that will apply the results of its studies in the technology of production of sugar beet, Kosutic said in an e-mailed statement on Tuesday.
"Sunoko will invest 1 million euro in the research centre. This investment will try to raise sugar beet production to a higher level. We see great potential in this branch of agriculture and that is why we are ready to invest, not only in our partners, but also to share that knowledge with all those who want to increase the yields of their beet fields," Kosutic said.
Sunoko has three production plants - in Kovacica, Vrbas and Pecinci, all located in Serbia's northern province of Vojvodina. It is the largest sugar beet purchaser and sugar producer in Southeast Europe with an annual output of about 300,000 tonnes of sugar.
