November 23 (SeeNews) - Serbian state-run copper mining and smelting company RTB Bor has started operating a fourth acid drainage line at the Majdanpek copper mine, Slobodan Misic, manager of the drainage works, said.
The operation of the fourth line will allow the company to increase the acid drainage capacity of the mine to 25 centimetres of water level daily from up to 20 centimetres currently, Misic said in a video file posted on the website of local broadcaster RTV Bor on Wednesday.
With the drainage, RTB Bor aims to eliminate the acid water accumulated at the bottom of Majdanpek's open pit and ensure the continuation of copper production activities in the complex.
RTB Bor started the drainage activities with three lines and has so far reduced the acid water level to 174 metres from 219 metres.
