February 2 (SeeNews) - Serbian copper mining and smelting company RTB Bor said it increased the production of copper ore at the Veliki Krivelj open pit mine by 40% year-on-year to 855,000 tonnes in January.
RTB Bor plans to produce between 830,000 and 900,000 tonnes of copper ore monthly in Veliki Krivelj this year, which is near the maximum capacity of the open pit mine, its director, Milan Delic, said in the corporate newsletter Kolektiv earlier this week.
The managing director of RTB Bor, Blagoje Spaskovski, said on Thursday the government plans to invest 1 billion dinars ($10.5 million/8.4 million euro) in the construction of a wastewater collector at Veliki Krivelj. The project is expected to be launched this year, Belgrade-based media quoted Spaskovski as saying.
RTB Bor operates the Majdanpek, Veliki Krivelj and Cerovo open pit mines, as well as the Jama underground mine. Majdanpek has estimated reserves of 619.5 million tonnes of ore grading 0.33% copper, one of the largest in Serbia.
