BELGRADE (Serbia), July 24 (SeeNews) – Serbia's president Aleksandar Vucic said on Tuesday he hopes to sign a contract with China for the financing of the construction of sections of a motorway linking Belgrade to Montenegro's port of Bar in September.
"I will meet President Xi Jinping in September and I wish to sign a contract for the financing of the Preljina-Pozega and Cacak-Pozega sections," Vucic told reporters in comments aired by public broadcaster Radio Beograd 1.
Moreover, a contract will be signed with the Chinese government for the construction of a Belgrade bypass road section connecting Ostruznica to Bubanj Potok, which is currently funded through the budget of contractor Power Construction Corporation of China (Powerchina), Vucic said.
Serbian President's Office said in June it received an official invitation for Vucic from Jinping to the World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting, which will take place in the Chinese port city of Tianjin from September 18 to September 20.
Serbia will launch the construction of a 30.9 km motorway section linking Preljina to Pozega in March 2019, infrastructure minister Zorana Mihajlovic said on Monday.
The section is part of pan-European Corridor XI - a motorway corridor linking Italy's Bari to Romania's Bucharest via Montenegro's port of Bar and Serbia's Belgrade, of which 103 km are planned to be completed this year.
