November 30 (SeeNews) - The city of Novi Sad, in north Serbia, will launch next year the construction of a waste water treatment plant, whose first stage is estimated to cost 70 million euro ($72.6 million), local media reported.
A total of 860 million dinars ($7.6 million/7.3 million euro) has been set aside for the first phase of construction of the main pumping station, one of the key components of the facility, news agency Novosti reported on Tuesday.
The facility will have the capacity to serve 400,000 people, which can be expanded to 500,000 people, according to project documents posted on the Novi Sad municipality website.
The final phase of construction is expected to be completed by 2035 and the exploitation life cycle of the facility is estimated at around 30 years.
The facility will be located on the right river bank of the Danube, spanning an area of 14.5 hectares.
In addition to the main pumping station at Rokov Potok, two other pumping stations will facilitate the discharge of waste water from settlements on either side of the river bank.
