BELGRADE (Serbia), September 12 (SeeNews) – Serbia's government expects Nis airport to handle more than 400,000 passengers in 2019, up from 351,581 last year, the infrastructure ministry said.
The government has invested about 10 million euro ($11 million) in Nis airport since 2014 and expects the passenger traffic at the airport to keep rising, the infrastructure ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.
Nis airport said it serviced 251,202 passengers in the first eight months of 2019, up 6% year-on-year.
In August 2018, the government took over the management of Nis airport from the city council, in order to enhance investment in the facility.
Flag carrier Air Serbia started the sale of tickets for subsidised services on 12 international destinations from the Konstantin Veliki Airport in May. The first subsidised flights took off from July 15.
