BELGRADE (Serbia), February 20 (SeeNews) – The number of mobile phone subscribers in Serbia rose to 9.20 million at the end of the third quarter of 2016, from 9.16 million at the end of December 2015, according to data from the country's Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Postal Services (Ratel).
The number of fixed-line subscribers fell to 2.5 million in at the end of September 2016 from 2.6 million at the end of the previous year, figures posted on the website of Ratel show.
Serbia, with a population of around 7.2 million, has three companies active in the mobile segment - Telekom Srbija, Telenor and Vip Mobile.
Telekom Srbija had a 46% share of the overall number of subscribers at the end of September, followed by Telenor with 32% and Vip Mobile with 22%.
The share of postpaid subscribers was 52% at the end of September.
Serbia's media content subscribers increased to 1.63 million at the end of September from 1.60 million at the end of December 2015. The leading platform for distribution of radio and TV programmes to end-users in Serbia was digital CATV, with a market share of 31%, followed by IPTV and analogue CATV with 29% and 26%, respectively. DTH had a market share of 14%.
The number of fixed broadband Internet access subscribers increased to 1.39 million in the third quarter of 2016 from 1.32 million at the end of December 2015. A total of 52% of the fixed broadband Internet access subscribers used the xDSL platform, followed by cable and wireless connections with 38% and 6%, respectively.
Internet services were provided by 203 registered operators, while media content distribution services were delivered by 84 companies.
