BELGRADE (Serbia), November 14 (SeeNews) – Serbian baby food producer Juvitana, a subsidiary of Swisslion-Takovo, has halted production activities after the Health Ministry detected pesticide residue in some of its porridges.
Juvitana has ordered tests of all baby food manufactured at the factory in Indjija, in northern Serbia, and has said it will close it permanently if the products turn out to be unhealthy, the company said in a statement on Friday.
On November 7, the Serbian Health Ministry ordered Juvitana to withdraw from the market many fruit porridges manufactured in Indjija, as it detected pesticide residue above the legal limit of 0.003 mg/kg.
Juvitana's factory in Indjija produces baby porridges and juices and is also equipped with an egg processing unit. The baby food programme implies production of thermally sterilised puree and juice in hermetically closed glass containers. The company received a Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) certificate in 2006.
Swisslion-Takovo controls the entire capital of Juvitana through its subsidiary Kompanija Takovo Gornji Milanovac (BEL:TKVO).
