BELGRADE (Serbia), January 3 (SeeNews) – Serbian state-owned power utility Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) plans to increase its gross electricity output by 4% to 40 billion kWh in 2019, energy minister Aleksandar Antic has said.
EPS intends to expand coal production at the Kolubara mining basin and the Kostolac coal mine by 1.5% to 38 million tonnes this year, Antic said, according to a press release issued by EPS earlier this week.
"The overall energy situation in Serbia is completely stable and the supply of all key energy products to individuals and businesses is guaranteed," Antic said.
Serbia's government said in July it plans to change the legal status of EPS to a joint stock company in 2020 in order to improve the viability of EPS operations and ensure its professional management.
