November 26 (SeeNews) - State-owned power utility Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) reconnected to the grid Unit B of its Nikola Tesla B thermal power plant, following a six-month overhaul, it said on Friday.
Unit B's capacity was increased by 20 MW to 670 MW as a result of the 90 million euro ($101 million) overhaul that also included the installation of a system reducing nitrogen oxide emissions to below 200 mg/cu m, EPS said in a statement.
"Within this large-scale project, 4,000 tonnes of new steel and 3,000 tonnes of construction materials were installed, and more than 55,000 welds were done," EPS managing director Milorad Grcic said.
A total of 70 million euro were invested in the overhaul of the boiler plant, and as much as 70% of the works were carried out by Serbian companies, EPS noted.
Nikola Tesla B is part of Termoelektrane Nikola Tesla (TENT) power generation complex, which also includes Nikola Tesla A, Morava and Kolubara thermal power plants.
EPS aims to bring all its thermal power plants in full compliance with the EU's Industrial Emissions Directive by 2027.
