June 19 (SeeNews) - Serbian state-owned power utility Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) increased its coal production by 5.1% year-to-date, energy minister Aleksandar Antic said.
Coal production increased by 900,000 tonnes year-on-year in the review period, Antic said on Tuesday, as quoted in a government statement.
The rise is coupled with very strong output in the thermal power sector where there is also a significant increase, Antic said.
In January, Antic said EPS intends to expand its coal production by 1.5% to 38 million tonnes this year.
Serbia's government said in July it plans to change the legal status of EPS to a joint stock company in 2020 in order to improve the viability of EPS operations and ensure its professional management.
