April 2 (SeeNews) - Serbia has confirmed five more deaths from the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on its territory, bringing the death toll to 28, while the total number of infected people rose to 1,060 as of April 1, the deputy director of the country's public health institute, Darija Kisic Tepavcevic, said.

All five new death cases are of men with associated diseases, and one of them is the state secretary at the environment ministry, Branislav Blazic, Tepavcevic said in a video file posted on the YouTube channel of public broadcaster RTS on Wednesday.

A total of 160 new cases of COVID-19 were reported on Wednesday, the Serbian health ministry said in a separate statement.

Health minister Zlatibor Loncar announced the first case of COVID-19 in the country on March 6.
