March 23 (SeeNews) - Serbian yeast producer Biospringer RS, a subsidiary of France's Lesaffre, will quadruple its output to meet increased demand on the Serbian market amid the coronavirus crisis, local media reported.
Yeast production in small packs will increase by 450% and production in packs of 500 grams for bakeries will double, the plan is to quadruple monthly production to 900 tonnes, news agency Tanjug quoted the COO of Biospringer RS, Laslo Djetvai, as saying on Sunday.
"We also have a facility and workers for this production, and we count on the support of the state in the procurement of raw material, sugar beet molasses, to meet the increased demand," Djetvai said.
According to data from Serbia's Chamber of Commerce, industrial demand for yeast has doubled, while retail demand for the product has grown sixfold as the coronavirus infection spread.
Lesaffre acquired the yeast extract factory of US-based natural animal nutrition group Alltech in Senta, in northern Serbia, in February 2018.
