BELGRADE (Serbia), February 5 (SeeNews) – Belgrade mayor Sinisa Mali has said the city government plans to launch the tender for the construction of the first metro line in Serbia's capital in 2020.
The construction works will start in 2020 and will be completed in 2022 or 2023, Mali said in a statement on Saturday.
The feasibility study on the project will be carried out in 2019, Mali said.
The first two stations of the metro network will be situated in Makisko Polje and Banovo Brdo neighbourhoods in southern Belgrade, while the third one will be built at the Belgrade Fair Centre located near the Sava river.
In July 2017, the Belgrade city government unveiled a transport masterplan which includes the development of a metro network. The plan envisages the construction of two metro lines, 22 kilometres and 19.8 kilometres in length, respectively, with construction works expected to take between three and four years.
The masterplan was developed by London-based engineering professional services firm WSP, Mali noted.
In November 2016, Serbia said it presented a project for the construction of the Belgrade Metro before representatives of French civil engineering groups Alstom and Egis.
