BELGRADE (Serbia), January 3 (SeeNews) – Serbian state-owned power utility Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) said its electricity output increased by 2.5% on the year to 36.5 billion kWh in 2016.
Coal production at EPS-operated mines topped 37.7 million t in 2016, 2% above plan, the company said in a press release on Sunday.
The electricity output of coal miner and thermal power producer TE-KO Kostolac, owned by EPS, reached a record-high 6.7 million MWh in 2016, versus 5.993 million MWh a year earlier, energy minister Aleksandar Antic said in the statement.
Last week, EPS said it expects the construction of a third unit of Kostolac B coal-fired power plant, part of TE-KO Kostolac, to start in the spring, with total investment projected at $715 million (686.9 million euro).
EPS booked a profit of 15.3 billion dinars ($129.3 million/124.2 million euro) in the first nine months of 2016 on the back of cost savings, which declined by 5% on the year and were 13% below plan.
