December 10 (SeeNews) - The combined pre-tax profit of the Serbian banks rose 27% to 26.63 billion dinars ($239.3 million/217.9 million euro) in the first nine months of the year, the National Bank of Serbia (NBS) said.
A total of 19 banks recorded pre-tax profit in the nine months through September while 11 posted a pre-tax loss, the NBS said in a quarterly report published on Wednesday.
UniCredit Bank Srbija, Banca Intesa and Raiffeisen Banka where the top three profit-earners over the review period, recording pre-tax earnings of 7.78 billion dinars, 6.2 billion dinars and 4.63 billion dinars, respectively.
Piraeus Bank, Jubmes Banka and Telenor Banka were the top three losers, recording pre-tax losses of 2.72 billion dinars, 954 million dinars and 879 million dinars, respectively.
The combined total assets of the Serbian banks amounted to 3,007 billion dinars at the end of September, up from 2,969 billion dinars at the end of last year.
The sector's capital adequacy ratio at the end of September stood at 21.22%.
Last year's combined pre-tax profit of the 29 banks that operated in Serbia by the end of December totaled 3.52 billion dinars.
There were a total of 30 banks operating in Serbia, a market of around 7.2 million, at the end of September.
