May 22 (SeeNews) - Serbia plans to start a 52 million euro ($56.7 million) project for the expansion of Sremska Mitrovica port on Sava river in March 2021, the infrastructure ministry said.
The preparation of the feasibility study of the project, involving a 33 million euro investment in port infrastructure, will be completed by August, the infrastructure ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
The project includes the construction of a bulk cargo terminal, a terminal for agricultural products, including silos with a total capacity of 18,900 square metres, as well as a smaller oil terminal, the ministry said in response to a question sent by daily Politika.
The port should become a logistics centre, predominantly for bulk cargo and agricultural products, for companies operating in the Srem and Macva administrative districts, as well as in the Serb Republic in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the infrastructure ministry said.
In May 2019, infrastructure minister Zorana Mihajlovic said that the government is investing 300 million euro in the development of the country's water transport, including the reconstruction of the ports in Belgrade, Sremska Mitrovica and Bogojevo.
